TEACHER TRAINING

GET CERTIFIED THROUGH THE KANE SCHOOL OF PILATES HOSTED BY REPERTOIRE PILATES.

Repertoire Pilates is an off-site training centre for The Kane School Pilates certification.  The Kane School Pilates certification is a rigorous training that combines the classical Pilates choreography with a modern, clinical perspective on the body. This comprehensive program forges embodied teachers with x-ray vision. The Kane School curriculum prioritises anatomy, biomechanics and assessment. Our goal is to train advanced Pilates professionals with skills in palpation, manual perception, programming, and optimising functional movement. Graduates are independent problem-solvers that thrive in a variety of settings across the fitness, wellness, and clinical spaces.

The full training is a 3-step process:

01. Core Muscle Anatomy
02. Comprehensive Mat
03. Apparatus Training

CORE MUSCLE ANATOMY

Lay the groundwork for learning the Pilates discipline with a comprehensive anatomy foundation. All Pilates certification students must complete Core Muscle Anatomy, or test out with a passing grade on the Kane School Anatomy entrance exam.

This comprehensive course explores musculoskeletal anatomy and basic kinesiology principles—emphasising the trunk, hip, shoulder girdle, arm, and neck—as they relate to the teaching and practice of Pilates, yoga, and bodywork. It lays the foundation for further study as a movement professional and is a prerequisite for the Kane School certification program. This course is presented in a lecture-style format with workbooks and PowerPoint presentations. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience via regular palpation of muscles, bones, and ligaments.

Students also learn how to practically apply information taught in the course to their movement professional career via analysis of Pilates exercises and an introduction to posture analysis. Additional topics such as core stability and the anatomical basis of common tension patterns and injuries are also addressed. Students wishing to move forward into Comprehensive Mat must obtain approval from the education manager. Students can test out of this course with a passing grade on the Kane School anatomy entrance exam.

Step 2 of the Kane School of Core Integration Teacher Training Program, the Kane School Comprehensive Pilates Mat Training is a 65-hour advanced Pilates mat certification program that is singular in its attention to assessment, biomechanics, and application of musculoskeletal anatomy to the human form. The primary objective of Kane School Comprehensive Mat Certifications is to empower instructors by providing them with the skills to facilitate their clients’ achievement of specific strength and flexibility goals, while maximising dynamic alignment and movement potential.

The Mechanics of Respiration, working in Neutral Pelvis and Posterior Pelvic Tilt, Core and Scapular Stability, Cervical Nod and Curl, and the Core Principles are covered in detail on the first weekend of the course. APPARATUS TRAINING

Gain a comprehensive Pilates equipment education. Learn choreography on the Pilates apparatus – reformer, chair, cadillac, and barrels – and how to apply Core Principles to equipment sessions. Interwoven through the training is the story of the moving body—its anatomy and biomechanics as well as its common postural problems and injuries.

APPARATUS TRAINING: PHASE 1

The first phase of the Kane School equipment training focuses on mastery of classic choreography on all apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, High Barrel and Spine Corrector. Students begin with basic and progress to intermediate and advanced levels, observing and practicing each exercise. Throughout each choreography level, students cultivate broader skill sets by learning exercise modifications and progressions, palpation techniques, and the art of cueing clients.

APPARATUS TRAINING: PHASE 2

With choreography solidified in Phase I, the second phase of the Kane School equipment training delves deeper into programming for injuries and specific populations. Each weekend of this phase hones in on either a specific body region or a special population:

Module 1: Teaching & Touch Primer, The Healthy Client, Lumbopelvic Region
Module 2: Head, Neck & Ribs, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist & Hand
Module 3: Hip, Knee
Module 4: Ankle & Foot, Clients Over 60

Each weekend module includes:

— Anatomy review and biomechanics
— Palpation techniques
— Hands-on and equipment assessments of the client
— Hands-on and equipment-based releases
— Pathologies, treatment, and surgeries
— Programming and contraindications

  • “My time at the Kane School has been full of personal and professional growth. The thoughtfully-scaffolded structure of the Basic Training program allowed me to repeatedly circle back to ideas, each time with a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the material.”

    ELLYN SJOQUIST, KANE SCHOOL STUDENT

  • “The Kane School Core Principles for movement resonated with me. Their philosophy on functional movement and rehabilitation just makes sense. Each teacher has a wealth of experience and are gifted in their techniques of teaching and training.”

    JUDY THURAU, KANE SCHOOL STUDENT

  • “The name Kinected has opened doors for me in the Pilates community. Since completing my mat and equipment training, the Pilates community recognizes me as a Kane grad which goes a long way. It shows I come from a specific and smart way of learning and teaching.”

    HANNAH KORNFELD, KANE SCHOOL STUDENT

  • “The Kane School’s meticulously crafted program was so much more than simply learning how to teach Pilates choreography. I was given the space to learn theoretically and kinaesthetically while thinking critically and applying it all with creativity. The teacher trainers are at once generous with their knowledge but firm with their expectations that we go beyond memorising content. I participated in a virtual version of Basic Training and was amazed at how supported I felt through the entire process. Despite participating in this training from across an ocean, the experience felt very intimate. My perspectives on moving, teaching, and learning are forever changed.”

    KATHERINE LAPLANT, KANE SCHOOL STUDENT
